45 TMC Storage in Major Dams of Satara District is a significant development for the region’s agricultural sector. As of mid-May 2025, major dams in Satara district, including Koyna, Dhom, and Kanher, collectively hold approximately 45 TMC of water. This substantial storage is crucial as the monsoon season approaches, ensuring a steady water supply for irrigation.

The Koyna Dam, the largest in the district, currently holds 29.58 TMC of water, about 24.43% of its total capacity of 105.25 TMC. Discharge from Koyna has been initiated at 3,500 cusecs to meet the irrigation demands of the surrounding regions. Similarly, other dams like Dhom, Kanher, and Tarli are also releasing water to support agricultural activities.
Despite the ample water storage, the Yerla Wadi Dam in Khatav taluka has only 3% of its capacity remaining, highlighting the need for timely monsoon rains to prevent water scarcity. The district’s irrigation systems are heavily reliant on these water resources, and the current discharge efforts aim to balance the needs of agriculture and water conservation. Wikipedia
As the monsoon season nears, the authorities are closely monitoring the water levels to ensure adequate supply for both irrigation and drinking purposes. The successful management of these water resources will play a pivotal role in sustaining the agricultural productivity of Satara district.
